As the sun sets over the picturesque city of Trieste, the Casa del Cinema unveils its enchanting summer program, beckoning cinephiles to its open-air arena in the heart of the Public Garden. Following the resounding success of its second season, which drew over ten thousand spectators, the Casa del Cinema resumes its reign over the historic outdoor theater, nestled amidst the greenery of Trieste’s urban center.

For the third consecutive year, the association curates an eclectic array of cinematic delights at the Public Garden “Muzio de Tommasini” from June to September, transforming it into a veritable “Cinema Garden.” Under the auspices of the Casa del Cinema, winner of the triennial tender promoted by the Municipality for the years 2022-2024, this historic arena, the only active open-air cinema in the Julian capital, promises a season brimming with cinematic magic.

Drawing upon its rich experience in cultural associations and festivals, the Casa del Cinema presents a program spanning over fifty evenings throughout the summer of 2024. From recent blockbusters to avant-garde auteurs, restored classics to family-friendly animations, the lineup promises to cater to diverse tastes. Expect original versions, premieres, and unreleased gems, all presented under the banner of the region’s leading film festivals.

Mariella Magistri, President of the Casa del Cinema di Trieste, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are delighted to bring back outdoor cinema to the Public Garden ‘Muzio de Tommasini’ in Trieste. The Casa del Cinema invites you to experience an unforgettable summer with over 50 evenings dedicated to cinematic masterpieces, auteur cinema, restored classics, and family films. We welcome you to an unparalleled atmosphere under the stars, promising a cultural and entertainment experience of the highest quality. This year, we have worked tirelessly to offer the citizens of Trieste and the many tourists a prestigious cinematic repertoire. We wish all enthusiasts a season rich in emotions and enjoyment. Enjoy the show!”

Amidst the cinematic extravaganza, the program will also feature two pivotal events from the 21st edition of “Trieste Estate,” the summer festival organized by the Municipality of Trieste with the support of PromoTurismoFvg and the collaboration of the Trieste Convention & Visitors Bureau.

From Monday, July 8 to Friday, July 12, #CINEMANORDEST, a showcase promoted by the Municipality of Trieste and the Casa del Cinema di Trieste, will present five titles representing the best of cinematography shot, produced, and set amidst the landscapes, people, and cultures of the Triveneto region.

From Friday, June 28 to Saturday, July 6, the Cinema Garden will host the 25th edition of the ShorTS International Film Festival, organized by the Maremetraggio Association, under the direction of Maurizio di Rienzo. The festival promises nightly screenings of shorts from the beloved Maremetraggio competitive section.

The inaugural weekend, commencing on Saturday, June 8, features the restored edition of “Buena Vista Social Club” (1999) by Wim Wenders, followed by the captivating debut of Paola Cortellesi’s “There’s Still Tomorrow” on Sunday, June 9.

From then on, the Cinema Garden promises a journey through cinematic history and contemporary marvels, a testament to the enduring allure of cinema under the stars.
