The 200 boats competing in the Trofeo Bernetti – Trieste’s sailing regatta since 1972- woke up perfectly blue skies and light wind on Trieste gulf.

With the start in Marina St Giusto and the finish line in Sisitiana, the regatta which started with clear blue skies, was slow but full of technique and zest.

The 52nd edition of the regatta organized by the Società Nautica Pietas Julia of Sistiana ends with the victory for the third consecutive year of Furio Benussi’s Arca SGR in the Open category and of Lorenzo Tesei’s Ora d’Aria for the ORCs. Various tactical choices were made by the racers in the face of a light Bora blowing at 4 knots at the start: some following the example of Arca which remained parallel to the coast and aiming for Miramare, others taking the risk of looking for wind further offshore, the latter choice being turns out to be spot on.

Furio Benussi, also benefiting from the enormous sailing surface of Arca, races in his own right, and passes first at mark 1. Followed at a distance, but very close to each other, Shockway with Riccardo Bonetti at the helm and the excellent Barraonda with the skipper Franco Ferluga. Due to the lack of wind, around 11am the race committee announced the shortening at mark gate 2, so as to allow everyone to finish the race.
